Kansas nurse faces charges for alleged sex crimes at work

A 47-year-old Johnson County man who was employed as a registered nurse at Providence Medical Center has been charged with three felony counts of aggravated sexual battery. The charges against the man stemmed from an investigation in which police say the man allegedly sexually assaulted patients while working at the hospital.

According to court documents, the alleged sexual assault incidents, which reportedly involved three patients, are said to have occurred on March 8 and then again on May 13 and May 19. Court records state that the nurse would touch the patients sexually while they were unable to give consent because they were under the effects of drugs or other substances given to them while being treated at the hospital.

Incidents reportedly cited by the patients include: one patient stating that the nurse had rubbed against her in a way that was sexual, a second patient stating that he had penetrated her with his finger although there was no medical reason to do so, and a third patient who stated that the nurse had run his finger across her pubic area.

The man is no longer working at the hospital and his nursing license has been revoked. He is currently free on bond and expected to appear in court on Dec. 30 for a preliminary hearing.

Sex crime charges can have serious consequences for a defendant that may affect both one's personal and professional life, such as loss of a job or even having to register as a sex offender for life. Defendants who are facing sexual assault charges may find it beneficial to seek counsel from an experienced Kansas criminal attorney.
