Ex-Kansas City quarterback arrested on suspected DUI at Wendy's

Tyler Thigpen, who started his NFL career back in 2007 with the Kansas City Chiefs, and who was cut this year by the Browns before getting through training camp, was picked up by police on suspicion of DUI charges. Reports show that he was in the drive-thru at a Wendy's restaurant when the arrest took place.

Police are claiming that the car stopped moving in the drive-thru line, and that it stayed there for around 20 minutes. When officers approached the car, they found that Thigpen had fallen asleep, still sitting behind the steering wheel. They were able to wake him, though it took some effort.

Thigpen was driving a black SUV made by Cadillac.

After the police did wake him up, they say that Thigpen was not sure how he had gotten to the Wendy's.

For his part, though, Thigpen said that he had not had any alcohol, maintaining that he was not drunk, but had merely fallen asleep. He would not do the field sobriety tests on the spot, so officers arrested him on suspicion and took him back to the station. There, they asked him to take a breath test, but he refused that as well.

All people who have been accused of driving under the influence need to make sure that they know what options they have for a defense. This is especially true if there is a lack of hard evidence—such as breath test results—and if they did not take field sobriety tests; however, even if those tests were taken, there are legal options that can be explored in any case.
