KC officer sentenced in assault, DUI cases

A Kansas City police officer accused of driving under the influence has received four days of jail time in connection with a February DUI incident. The woman, age 29, is also accused of assaulting the arresting officer in connection with the incident. She reportedly has received a reduced sentence in exchange for pleading guilty.

The officer has also received two years of probation, as well as 90 days in jail that will be suspended unless she violates the terms of her probation. She pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, and all other charges pending against the woman were dismissed.

Reports from the scene indicate that the woman had been swerving out of her lane while driving on a major road in February. She had been driving up onto the curb that separated northbound and southbound lanes along the road. When a highway patrol trooper pulled the woman over, he reported that she could not complete a series of sobriety tests. In addition, the woman reportedly resisted arrest by assaulting one of the officers present at the scene.

The woman is said to have head-butted one of the officers while attempting to scratch him. The Kansas City police were called in so they could arrest the woman, largely because she was so violent. In fact, when the woman was transported to the Clay County Detention Center, seven other officers were required to get her into a restraint chair.

The woman in this case probably pled guilty because of the overwhelming evidence against her in connection with the case. Not only did breathalyzer evidence likely indicate that the woman was intoxicated at the time of the incident, but several officers were witness to her activities.
