Former English teacher pleads guilty to sex crimes

Being accused of a sex crime is a terrifying experience for an individual. The media often highlights stories of teachers who have allegedly been involved in inappropriate relationships with a student. Sometimes these accusations end up being true and other times they are concocted by kids looking for attention from their peers. The end result for the accused can, even if the allegation is not true, negatively impact their future as an educator -- forcing them to leave the community and start over.

Authorities bust a large multi-state drug ring

A major drug investigation in Johnson and Douglas counties has led to the arrest of about 25 people who were involved in a trafficking ring. The group faces drug charges in connection with nearly a ton of high-grade marijuana that was distributed between April 2008 and June 2012, according to official reports. Federal agents were in the area to make the arrests earlier this month, said area police officers.

Unlicensed driver charged in pedestrian death

The aftereffect of a fun night on the town can negatively impact motorists arrested for an alcohol related accident. Not only can drivers face hefty fines and jail time, but in some instances a driver can even lose their driver's license. Still, if that accident involves the injury or death of another, a driver is facing even more severe penalties.
