Understanding Sentencing For Drug Cases

For years, I have fought aggressively for my clients, defending them against the dangers they are facing when it comes to drug sentencing guidelines. The Law Office of James M. Brun, LLC, in Overland Park, Kansas, helps them understand how I can best prepare their cases to minimize or even avoid the consequences associated with these guidelines.

My experience often assists me in determining which judges and prosecutors might find which legal arguments the most persuasive. This knowledge enables me to strategically tailor my clients’ cases according to what legal approaches I determine will work best.

Aggressive Attorney For Kansas Clients: Drug Charge Sentencing Guidelines

As with the Kansas sentencing guidelines, drug sentencing guidelines allow the judge discretion as to how severely he or she may punish a criminal defendant. There is no such thing as “one size fits all” drug sentencing.

These different levels of harshness for the drug crime itself range from a number “1” level, which is the most severe, down to a level “5,” the least severe. The court also applies a letter system, “A” meaning that you will receive the most severe sentencing, for instance.

I have worked on both sides of criminal matters. That’s because, prior to becoming a lawyer, I interned with the St. Louis Metropolitan Sex Crimes Unit. Later, as an attorney, I served as chief counsel at a well-respected school district.
