Kansas man facing sex crimes allegations for two incidents

A Kansas City man is facing criminal charges after allegedly accosting two women in the metro area during the past two months. The man, age 49, is accused of sex crimes including kidnapping, rape, sodomy and sexual assault in the case. Authorities report that the man has a criminal history that includes an arrest in late May for the same type of activities.

Officials say that the man reportedly accosted a woman in early October, offering her a ride while she walked down the street. He then threatened her with a stun gun when she got into the vehicle, putting a towel over her head and driving to his house. The woman said she was assaulted at that location and then transported away from the home with her face covered yet again. She was then released. Another woman was able to escape from the man's alleged attack in November, when she also agreed to accept a ride from the man. The woman got into the vehicle, but she screamed when she was threatened with a stun gun. A bystander was able to assist that woman in escaping from the scene.

The man claims that police officers are simply misinterpreting the incidents, however; he had met the second woman online and had agreed to meet her in person at a nearby hotel. He says they got into an argument, and he became the victim when she scratched his neck during the altercation.

Investigators say evidence suggests that the first woman was transported to the defendant's home, as she was able to accurately describe the inside of his house.

Defendants who have been charged with sex crimes should not automatically be considered guilty. In this case, it is possible that the man simply got into a lovers' spat with the second woman, who is claiming that she was in physical danger. Defendants who are facing sex crimes charges may benefit from the counsel provided by a qualified defense attorney, who can make sure they get the fair trial they deserve.
