Man accused of impersonating officer

A 21-year-old man from Peculiar, Kansas, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer. Information from the man's criminal defense indicates that he may have intentionally initiated a confrontation with an armed teenager. The man is facing charges of misdemeanor impersonation of an officer, along with two felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

Cass County authorities report that the man was carrying a firearm after he pulled over at least two vehicles on April 30. The counterfeit officer was reportedly very upset during the first encounter, using inappropriate language during the fake traffic stop. The second encounter proved more troublesome as a couple of teenagers driving near Route C and 227th Street noticed that they were being followed. One of the vehicle's occupants phoned a friend and asked him to get his shotgun ready because a suspicious person was following them.

When the pair of vehicles arrived at the friend's house, the defendant reportedly exited his vehicle, brandished a handgun, and instructed the teen to drop the weapon. He told the youngsters that they had violated traffic laws. When the group asked to see the man's identification, he refused to show them official documents. The teen eventually lowered his gun and the defendant put his handgun in a holster. One of the teens' mothers apparently helped de-escalate the situation.

After questioning, the defendant reportedly told police that he had always wanted to be a police officer. Luckily, no one was injured in the pair of bizarre incidents.

This man could clearly benefit from the assistance of a qualified criminal defense attorney. Since he is facing felony charges, a strong criminal defense will be even more important; these charges are far more serious and carry heavier penalties than their misdemeanor counterparts. If you are facing criminal charges, consider enlisting the help of a criminal defense attorney, who can help you understand all phases of the criminal trial process.
