Battery and Aggravated Battery
Kansas statute 21-3412 defines battery as:
- Intentionally or recklessly causing bodily harm to another person
- Intentionally causing physical contact with another person when done in a rude, insulting or angry manner
Battery is a Class B misdemeanor and carries significant penalties to one's freedom and reputation.
Kansas statute 21-3414 defines aggravated battery as:
- Intentionally or recklessly causing great bodily harm to another person or disfigurement of another person
- Intentionally or recklessly causing bodily harm to another person with a deadly weapon, or in any manner whereby great bodily harm, disfigurement or death can be inflicted
- Intentionally causing physical contact with another person when done in a rude, insulting or angry manner with a deadly weapon, or in any manner whereby great bodily harm, disfigurement or death can be inflicted

Assault and Aggravated Assault
Kansas statute 21-3408 defines assault as intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm. Assault is a Class C person misdemeanor.
Kansas statute 21-3410 defines aggravated assault an assault committed with one or more of the following:
- A deadly weapon;
- While disguised in any manner designed to conceal identity; or
- With intent to commit any felony.
